Significance of the Christening Shawl
Christening Shawls are traditional garments used during the christening ceremony. Holy water is poured over the baby’s head while the vicar recites prayers. The ceremony cleanses the child of “original sin”.
A traditional white shawl and robe are used during the ceremony. The baby is wrapped in the shawl after the water cleansing – the colour white represents the purity and oneness with God.
