Newborn Baby Fawn Clothing Collection

When we began to look at this requirement, from the outset, our aim was to create something made locally, in a sustainable way.

We began by looking at fabric combinations suitable for a baby clothing collection. But also, containing other “sustainable", features too.

A Sustainable Fabric Composition

Our main aim was to use a high-quality fabric with the very highest sustainable characteristics. No compromises.

We explored a number of material options, with different suppliers. Eventually, we found a supply of Micro Modal, which impressed us. So, we began experimenting with this idea. Micro Modal is made from wood pulp, (Beech Trees). Up to 99% of the wood comes from sustainable, managed forestry. It is probably the most sustainable material, suitable for our purposes, which is for baby clothing.

We experimented with several different fabric formulations...
In the end, we found mixing high quality Micro Modal, with organic combed cotton provided a really soft, rich texture, perfect for babies. The two combined - 50% of each - made the best match.

The feel of the fabric is an important feature for both new mums, as well as baby too.
The technical qualities of Micro Modal are ideal for baby clothing. Not only is it breathable, but is excellent for a baby’s sensitive skin.

Our poppers are made from nickel free metals. Even the labels were considered for their “sustainable” qualities and were carefully selected, made from recycled materials.

The Baby Fawn Collection includes a babygrow, a bodysuit, and a bib, in three lovely classic colours and made in two sizes, (0-3months and 3-6months).

Local Manufacture

Being a long-standing British manufacturer, we wanted to make these new pieces, not just in Britain, but as local as possible.

Our intention is to keep the "carbon footprint” of these items as low as possible. The specialist fabric is made by another British and family run fabric supplier, very local to us.

Styled to Match

Our new "Baby Fawn" clothing collection is styled to coordinate with our unique G.H.Hurt & Son baby shawls and other knitwear pieces.

In part, this is because our customers made it clear they wish to "mix and match” with both our newborn baby layette knitwear pieces, as well as our lacy knitted baby shawls. The colours are chosen to compliment our knitted pieces perfectly.

The lovely picot embroidered trim echoes the beautifully scalloped edges found on our lacy knitted baby shawls.

Journey’s End

The new collection was launched during early 2023, at international baby clothing shows in Florence, Paris and New York. We are so proud of these finished items. Initial feedback from customers, press and trade is positive. The two-year journey is now back with our customers. We hope you love them as much as we do?
